on Medium: How come US works?

But enough second-hand Zizek. It doesn’t matter so much, in the end, that you don’t know the specifics (well, the generics, even) of the Tethered project (chief question: what’s the Donald’s Tethered like?). As “the movies”, you’ve seen it all elaborated, somewhere, sometime (somewhat). You’re willing to concede that because, on one hand, the branching metaphors stand, and, on the other, the generalized paranoid schizophrenia resonates. Mutating itself along the axis of American horror, US refuses to locate the source of its evil: what, exactly, are we afraid of? Is it poor people, the ticking time bomb of rising income inequality? Is it government plots for population control, black ops under manholes? Is it us, or the US, cracking under pressure?

Jordan Peele might not have the answer. But have a look at the warring clans of the news cycle circa 2019 and tell me he hasn’t done a good job at defining the question.
