Much can be made of Bohemian Rhapsody the movie shitposting Bohemian Rhapsody the song’s bad reviews in a sequence that resembles a bizarro trailer within the movie it advertises. It’s as if Bohemian Rhapsody the film anticipates its own critical brush-off and clues the viewer in to preemptively sneer at it together like defiant Brexiteers. But what’s even more telling is when Malek/Mercury, rapt with the clarity of near-death, addresses his bandmates. “I will continue to give the people what they want”, he says. Long pause; bristles on end. What do the people want? Does it have a name, or is the movie itself the answer? Who are the people anyway? Am I a member? I must be cursed to forever wonder. But then he points a finger upwards and serves up the answer: “Touch of the heavens”. (link)
